WOW Air Expands Service for 2018

WOW air, the Icelandic airline that has taken the discount airfare world by storm, shows no signs of slowing down in 2018. The low-cost carrier will continue to connect mainland Europe with North America by way of the tiny island nation where it is based: Iceland.

WOW air currently serves major U.S. markets like New York (JFK), Chicago (ORD) and Washington, D.C. (IAD), but come 2018, the purple airline plans to expand its service even further to less-served U.S. destinations.

Beginning April 26, 2018, WOW air will fly from its hub in Reykjavik (KEF) to Detroit (DTW), followed by Cleveland (CLE) service launching May 4, Cincinnati (CVG) May 10 and, finally, St. Louis (STL) May 17.

This new service will be the first to connect Cleveland with cities across the Atlantic Ocean since 2008, but competitor airline Icelandair also announced it will start serving the Ohio city in 2018, providing increased competition in prices.

The bright purple carrier has become known for its shockingly low fares to Reykjavik and points further east in Europe. With layovers in the Icelandic capital, the airline encourages travelers to stop over and explore the North Atlantic nation before continuing to mainland Europe. The low fares mean standard onboard amenities typically found with major airlines (such as in-flight entertainment, meal service and free checked bags) are not available or only available for an additional fee.
