Nestled within Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, Ximuwu is a private piece of land of 2,000 hectares. Founded by Netherlands couple Patrick and Elly Suverein, Ximuwu Lodge opened in 2021. Leaving their European life behind, Patrick and Elly embarked on an African odyssey in 2017 and fell in love with the untamed beauty of their surroundings in South Africa. This is the only truly exclusive lodge as you and your guests are the only ones driving on these 6,500 hectares with this being the only commercial lodge in this part of Klaserie Private Nature Reserve.
Following a failed back surgery which temporarily confined Patrick to a wheelchair, the couple was determined to be a catalyst for change for travelers with disabilities. Fast forward a few years, the Suvereins — who own 2,000 hectares in the 6,500-hectare traverse — transformed Ximuwu Lodge into more than just a luxurious retreat; it became a haven of inclusivity. Taking pride in being fully wheelchair accessible, Ximuwu Lodge lets every guest immerse themselves in the tranquility of the surroundings without any limitations.
“Drawing inspiration from our own struggles, we wanted to prioritize accessibility without compromising on aesthetic allure,” said Elly. “Our vision is to provide an inclusive safari experience where mobility poses no barriers.”

Blending both form and function so all guests can have access to the beauty of the property and surrounding area, the lodge offers ingenious features like game vehicles with slide-out seats and accessible bush dinners under the African sky. The spa, designed with accessibility in mind, invites every guest to experience its soothing embrace. Electric and manual wheelchairs stand ready for exploration, ensuring mobility is never a barrier. The lodge also offers a pool lift, bath lift and electric adjustable beds.
All guests now can experience the splendor of the Lowveld with guided safari experiences and the opportunity to view wildlife from one of two underground hides. From game drives to sound safaris to photo safaris, the experiences at Ximuwu Lodge are both personalized and accessible to all.
With the ability to host up to 10 guests at once, including provisions for two wheelchair users, Ximuwu promises an unforgettable experience for all. A six-hour drive or 45-minute flight from Johannesburg, the lodge stands as a testament to inclusivity and accessibility in South Africa, having received the highest grade of recognition from the South African Tourism Grading Council.
