At any moment, there are hundreds, maybe thousands of planes flying through the sky, a frightening concept for those with a fear of flying. But for travelers who prefer to keep track of their flights or who are eager to make a tight connection on their way to their final destination, FlightAware is a tool that comes in handy.
The website allows you to search for flights by airline and flight number or, if you don’t have the flight number, by departure or arrival airport or city. Further searching allows you to filter your results by flight status (in flight or arrived), airline, departure date and time, arrival date and time, airline alliance and aircraft. FlightAware then generates a list of flights and provides information about statuses, with up-to-the-minute details such as scheduled arrival times and delay information.
Clicking on an individual flight presents even more information, including identifying the departure gate and arrival gate and providing data that shows previous scheduling information from the past, such as average delay times, taxiing times, average flight fare, speed, altitude, distance traveled and a coded flight route that users can decode to view the exact route of travel.
While some of this information may seem cumbersome and unnecessary, frequent flyers who have tight schedules and concerning connection times may find it beneficial.
