The travel company’s study focused on the 50 busiest airports, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Upgraded Points then analyzed Google and Yelp reviews for each airport, noting mentions of “friendly” or “rude” staff or TSA. Mentions were compared to the total number of reviews to calculate a ratio of positive to negative interactions, with each airport scored on a scale of 0 to 5 based on the ratio of positive mentions for a possible score of 50.

“Whether it’s a friendly food vendor, a grumpy TSA agent, or a happy flight attendant, the level of service received at airports can set the tone for an entire trip,” said Keri Stooksbury, editor-in-chief, Upgraded Points. “Our study acknowledges those airports where staff go the extra mile to ensure passenger satisfaction.”
The Top 5 Airports with the Friendliest Staff are:
- Portland International Airport, with a score of 44/50 and 19 percent of Yelp reviews praising the staff
- Indianapolis International Airport, with a score of 43/50 and less than 1 percent negative mentions on Google
- Jacksonville International Airport, with a score of 39/50 and travelers praising assistance provided by the staff
- John Wayne Airport, known for speed, efficiency and hospitality
- Pittsburgh International Airport, boasting a friendly staff and forward-thinking amenities
