There are probably as many tacos as there are palm trees in Los Angeles, so narrowing it down to five must-try tacos was no easy feat. Some of the best tacos come from roaming taco trucks. After hunting down your favorite truck, enjoy your purchase in true L.A fashion — outdoors under the umbrellas or awning most trucks set up.
Go for authentic. Ricky’s Fish Tacos are nearly legendary. Track them down on Twitter and try their shrimp tacos. Make sure to pay with cash and snap a picture with their iconic logo.
Visit a storefront. Try Mexicali’s for a taste of Tex-Mex fusion with an LA twist. Arrive early for al pastor, or otherwise feast on asada, pollo, chorizo, or vegetarian fillings.
Stay fresh. Stop by Guisados for fresh, handmade corn tortillas with plenty of vegetarian options and a seasonal menu of specials. Be sure to check out the rotating art exhibits inside.
Taste the fusion. The Kogi BBQ truck is LA fusion at its best. Not for the taco purist, these flavorful, spicy Korean fusion tacos are unlike anything you’ve ever tasted.
Try something new. Try a wildcard taco truck or stand — some smaller ones don’t advertise or have websites. Most carts start rolling around dinner time and close by 9 p.m. Cruise into a new neighborhood and try something new. Who knows, you may just find your next favorite.
