If trail running is your thing, you’ll need a pair of shoes sturdy without being too cumbersome. Here are five of the best.
New Balance Vazee Summit
This brand has been a favorite with runners of all stripes for years, and the Vazee Summit is no exception. The Fantom Fit system makes it supremely comfortable, and it’s good for all surfaces.
Altra Lone Peak 3.0
The Lone Peak 3.0 has zero heel drop, which means the front of the shoe is the same height as the back. This makes for a different feel, but improved stability — a hardy and versatile shoe.
Salomon Sense Pro 2
One of the biggest names in the business, Salomon maintains its high standards with the Sense Pro 2. It’s not recommended for muddy terrain, but is best on rocks.
Brooks Cascadia 11
The Cascadia has long been a favorite among trail runners, and the design has changed little since the first edition won rave reviews in 2005. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Saucony Peregrine 6
Any list related to running shoes wouldn’t be complete without an entry from Saucony. The brand is known for high-quality shoes, and the Peregrine 6 is fantastic for all-round trail running.
