Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

For some, a trip to the Olympic Games — as a spectator or an athlete — is a dream trip. Luckily, many of the cities that hosted the games still boast remnants from participation in the worldwide event. If you aren’t ready to attend an upcoming event, check out these places that played host to Olympics of the past.

Athens

Visit Panathenaic Stadium, built on the site of the first modern Olympic Games. It is the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble.

Berlin

The German city hosted the infamous 1936 Summer Olympics during the Nazi occupation. You can still walk through the abandoned training facilities in the Olympic Village complete with Soviet murals.

Montreal

Montreal hosted the 1976 Winter Olympics. The Olympic Stadium was built for the games and still serves as a symbol of the city. Today, the stadium hosts a variety of sport and cultural events.

Rio de Janeiro

The most recent Olympics host, Rio de Janeiro worked with a Brazilian artist to debut a stunning mural on Olympic Boulevard. The mural depicts five indigenous people, representing five continents and the five Olympic rings.

Sarajevo

The 1984 Winter Olympics took place in Sarajevo. Today, the bobsled track, ski jump and other structures still stand, covered in graffiti and overgrown plant life.
