Although Canadian currency is stronger than its American equivalent — roughly 90 cents to every Canadian dollar — travelers can still experience the beautiful city of Vancouver on a $100 budget. Vancouver, a seaport city in the province of British Columbia, is brimming with picturesque views and historic attractions.
Have a leisurely weekend brunch at the Teahouse located in Vancouver’s Stanley Park, which offers picturesque views of the English Bay. Enjoy Belgian Waffles with seasonal fruit, walnuts and vanilla cream for $13.
Wander the park’s beautiful trails and visit one of the park’s many botanical gardens, such as the Woodland Wildflower Garden. Check out others, such as the Miniature Train, which is a replica of the #374 Pacific Railroad, or the Brockton Point Lighthouse.
Take public transportation from Stanley Park to Granville Island. The ride takes roughly 30 minutes and costs $2.75. The Translink website offers a trip-planning tool and more information about which routes to choose. The #19 bus stops near the Miniature Train and the Lost Lagoon.
Spend the afternoon at Granville Island’s Public Market visiting the market’s artisan vendors. Have lunch on the patio at Bridges Bistro and savor the views of English Creek and False Bay. Try the grilled vegetable pizza with chipotle tomato sauce for $19.
Visit the Granville Island Brewery for a beer tasting tour, held daily. Each tasting coasts $9.75 and includes three four-ounce samples plus an exclusive look at the brewery, which opened in 1984, and offers a variety of locally influenced beers.
End the day with dinner at Edible Canada, a fresh, seasonally inspired restaurant. Savor pea and ricotta ravioli, served with mushrooms, zucchini, roasted garlic, brown butter, bread crumbs and summer greens for $23.
Spend the extra money, about $25, on tips, souvenirs and an extra snack or drink. Enjoy the day in Vancouver while on budget and start planning the next trip to experience all the city has to offer.
