Tips / Destination

The Austrian capital is home to countless accommodations to suit every budget. Here are some of the best options to consider for your next trip.

For those on a tight budget, there are some good hostels. Most accommodation in the city is quite expensive, so book ahead to get a spot at Guesthouse Arabella, Wombats City Hostel or Hostel Ruthensteiner.

As previously mentioned, hotels are a big expense for many visitors to Vienna. Among the mid-range options is Hotel Kärntnerhof, housed inside a 19th-century building in the city center. It’s surprisingly peaceful given the location, and there is an interesting collection of art by Alexander von Humboldt in the lounge. Another relatively affordable option is the Gratzl Hotel, designed by a group of architects who call themselves the Urbanauts. It’s an interesting concept, and, at around $120 per night, it’s below the average price for Vienna.

At the luxury end of the market, travelers are spoiled for choice. Hotel Imperial is right on the Ringstrasse and has received Queen Elizabeth II as a guest, while Grand Hotel has been open since 1870 and is famous for its classic décor. Elsewhere there is the Hotel Sacher, founded by Eduard Sacher, whose son Franz Sacher invented one of Vienna’s most popular delicacies, the Sachertorte.
