Under $100 / Europe

The German capital is renowned for its affordability, while still boasting all of the cultural and culinary highlights you would expect from a major European city.

Start your day with breakfast at Café Orange, which offers almost every kind of breakfast or brunch dish you care to imagine. Order some croissants for a light breakfast, or go for salmon and eggs for something out of the ordinary ($16). From here, walk to Museum Island, and spend the morning in the Pergamon Museum ($14). Marvel at the reconstructed Babylonian gate and hundreds of other ancient exhibits.

For lunch, grab a quick portion of currywurst from Curry Mitte, a favorite with locals for its cheap prices. This German specialty consists of sausage with curry sauce and a portion of French fries if you so desire ($3.50).

In the afternoon, take a look at the Urban Spree art gallery. The space shows work by contemporary artists and photographers, and there is a beer garden attached if you get thirsty. For a breath of fresh air, take a walk around Treptower Park, or hire a rowing boat for a leisurely cruise ($7).

Head for dinner at Monsieur Vuong in Mitte, where you can have some healthy Vietnamese food ($15) before a night on the tiles at some of Berlin’s famous bars and clubs. Wine drinkers should go to Die Weinerei, where you pay as much as you feel for glasses of wine, and those looking for a more raucous time should head to Bei Schlawinchen, open 24 hours (beers $3).

As the night progresses, try your luck at the iconic Berghain nightclub, or stick to bars such as Das Hotel and Madame Claude (beers around $3).
