Under $100 / Latin America

Brasilia is an incredibly exciting and culturally rich capital with no shortage of places to visit and food to eat. Fitting it all in over the course of one day, and for less than $100, is no easy feat, but here is one itinerary that’ll allow you to get it done.

Begin your morning at Vitamina Central for a delicious, cheap smoothie that’ll give you the energy needed to tackle the day ahead. A drink here will cost you roughly $5.

Make your way over to the Santuario Dom Bosco, a sanctuary that honors the Italian saint Dom Bosco, whose vision helped inspire the foundation of Brasilia. Inside you’ll find a beautiful interior bathed in blue light and a chandelier made of 7,400 pieces of glass. It’s free to visit.

Next seek out the Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge, named after the former president and take a stroll along the pedestrian walkway. The construction of the bridge is a sight to behold and one of the city’s proudest attractions.

When you’re ready for lunch be sure to try Kiosky da Rosa for some cheap, traditional Brazilian food. The barbeque here is some of the best in town and you’ll only spend about $15 for a meal.

Begin the afternoon by visiting the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, the city’s premier arts and culture destination with numerous exhibits to explore. They have paintings, sculptures and even performances throughout the day. Entrance to a show costs roughly $10.

The museum will take up much of the afternoon, but you’ll still have time to explore Pontao Do Lago Sul. This center houses numerous restaurants, bars, playgrounds and gaming establishments and is a popular hangout for locals. Be sure to bring around $30 to have some fun.

Finally, for dinner head over to Boteco do Juca, a lovely Italian and Brazilian joint that has some of the most authentic and delicious food around. A plate of pasta will cost you around $15.
