Under $100: Lansing, Mich.

Start the morning with a hike on more than four miles of paved trails at the Carl Fenner Nature Center. Trails will take you to places like the Sugar Bush, butterfly garden, the native plant garden and the herb garden, as well as to the glacial esker and observation desks.

Stop by the Soup Spoon Café, a colorful and cozy café offering homemade soup and a menu of homestyle eats and regional beers. Order Gus’ Greek Wrap for $8 or share the Naan Pizza of the Day for $10. The Voodoo Pasta with shrimp, sautéed bell peppers and onions over linguine goes for $18.

Work off your lunch and enjoy an afternoon walking tour of Historic Marshall, as sidewalks have been painted to highlight historic resources. The green-dotted Historic Homes Walk will feature more than 200 structures and the red-dotted Historic Downtown Walk includes five museums.

Rediscover the wonders of the universe at Abrams Planetarium. The sky theater features star shows produced by a computer graphics start projector. The planetarium also serves as an astronomy and space science education resource center. For all public shows, adults pay $4 for a ticket, students and senior citizens $3.50, and children 12 and under $3.

Check out Lansing Brewing Company, the lone full-scale production brewery in the city. Last month, the brewery celebrated its first anniversary. They’ve made more than 50 original beers, produced an average of 3,600 pounds of brewer’s grain each week and sold about 23,177 Amber Creams. Go enjoy a quick bite to eat like Hot Hoppy Cheese Dip, made with Amber Cream IPA, served with soft pretzel sticks and wonton chips for $7.50 or Z’s Macho Nachos for $7.99 and top it off with a delicious Union Golden Ale.

Be sure to eat dinner at Deluca’s Restaurant; the family-run Italian bistro offers traditional cuisines alongside specialty BLTs and broccoli pies. Order the homemade garlic sticks with cheese for $8.50, a meat special pie for $15.60 or manicotti for $12.50. Make sure you save room for dessert!
