The surf town of Sayulita is a great place to spend a few days. Here’s how to do it on a budget.
Start off your day with breakfast at Yah Yah Sayulita, where you can get great coffee as well as gluten-free and vegan options, perfect for a mixed group with different dietary requirements ($8).
Wander around town to pick up some souvenirs ($10) and then take a long walk along the beach. Come back in time for lunch at Mary’s restaurant, a cheap Mexican local joint where you can bring your own drinks ($6).
You might want to lay off the beers until you’ve been for an afternoon surf, though. Rent a board on the beach ($10) and paddle out into the waves. The breaks right on the beach are normally good for beginners, so you won’t get thrown around too much.
Afterward, go back to your hostel for a shower and then head out for sundowners at El Patio, where you can get two-for-one margaritas for $5. Then it’s time for dinner at Palmar Trapiche ($15) before some cocktails at Don Pato, where you can party long into the night if the feeling takes you.
