The BivyPack offers a clever solution for those who want to always carry a shelter with them.
Thru-hikers and fans of lightweight gear will be pleased to hear the entire backpack weighs just 1.5 pounds. After a day of hauling your gear about, simply unpack the bivy from a hidden pocket in the collar of your bag and set up your shelter for the night.
The BivyPack is carry-on size, which means you could feasibly take all of your equipment and a shelter in just one bag. Roll the bivy out and fix the extendable poles into the top portion to make space for your head. While the top section of the bivy itself is made of mesh, you can make the shelter waterproof by fixing your rain jacket over the poles, which are designed to hold it in place.
While the product doesn’t claim to be the most comfortable shelter, it does provide an emergency option for longer-term travelers or a decent option for those who want to pack light for a weekend hiking trip.
Freestyle raised $8,452 during a successful Kickstarter campaign, and deliveries are expected to be made in April 2016. Alongside the bivy, the pack has 50 liters of space for other gear.
