Sports

The Tour de San Luis is the only category one cycling event in Latin America, bringing the top names in the sport to Argentina every January.

Since 2007, the Tour de San Luis has been responsible for the growth in popularity of cycling Argentina, with the world´s best cyclists competing over seven stages in the province of San Luis. Last year saw victory for Argentinian Dani Diaz, who delighted the home crowd with his performance.

This time around Dayer Quintana of Colombia rode to victory, with his older brother Nairo in third. The elder Quintana previously finished second in the Tour de France on two occasions, and the pair is encouraging people from across the continent to join the sport.

Even when the Tour is not in town, there is plenty to see in San Luis. The province sits between the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires and the famous wine-producing city of Mendoza, in the foothills of the Andes. Embark on a cycle tour of your own to see some of the spectacular landscapes before sampling some of the best Argentinian wine and steak.

It might not be best to do so by bicycle, but why not continue your trip over the Andes into Chile and fly home from the capital, Santiago?

The next edition of the Tour de San Luis is scheduled to take place in the third week of January 2017. Fly non-stop to Buenos Aires from 77 cities, including major European capitals and U.S. cities such as Dallas, Houston and Miami.
