Before you head overseas to a foreign country it’s always a good idea to try and learn a little bit of the language. It’ll help you make friends with locals and aid you in a pinch if you need help asking for directions. Here are a few apps to have on hand that’ll have you speaking new phrases in no time.
Duolingo
Duolingo has become the go-to app for anyone hoping to learn a new language. People who actually speak the language develop its programs and its course model helps you to progressively advance in a way that makes sense.
HelloTalk
Have you ever thought it would be easier to learn a new language if you had a native speaker to practice with? HelloTalk provides you with exactly that. It connects you with natives of more than 100 different languages and allows you to chat live, text or record audio messages.
Busuu
Busuu allows you to either immerse yourself in a full course to learn one of 12 different languages or you can opt for the mini travel courses that’ll provide a quick tutorial with essential phrases. The app also allows you to join as a teacher, helping other people around the globe learn from you.
Accent
Accent is a great way to learn a new language while also learning about what’s happening in your destination. It works by providing you with a newspaper of current events in a foreign language, while translating words you don’t know as you go along.
