This year, Miami celebrates 100 years of Art Deco. This style changed the design world with its bold geometric shapes, luxurious materials and sleek design. Four hotels in Miami Beach are some of the most eye-catching examples of Art Deco.

Cadillac Hotel & Beach Club, Autograph Collection

Cadillac Hotel & Beach Club, Autograph Collection sits along the famous boardwalk in the heart of Miami Beach’s Mid-Beach neighborhood. The Art Deco property opened in 1940 and was designed by renowned architect Bill Rooney, who found inspiration from the glamour and sophistication of 1940s European Riviera. Today, the resort put a modern twist on the style while still preserving the Art Deco look thanks to original terrazzo floors in the lobby, lush greenery and a wraparound mezzanine balcony. Head to The Lobby Bar and Riviera, a multiuse public and meeting space leading to a grand terrace overlooking the pool deck, which houses an adults-only pool and a family pool.

The Gates Hotel South Beach

The Gates Hotel South Beach sits in a prime location on Collins Avenue, just a short walk from Ocean Drive, South Beach’s nightlife and the Atlantic Ocean. The hotel’s 235 guestrooms and suites deliver a modern take on South Beach with décor combining vintage throwbacks with contemporary details. The Art Deco style reflects South Beach’s vibrant design and tropical vibes. The Gates was built on the foundation of the historic 1954 Motel Ankara, originally built by architecture firm Reiff & Feldman. It features a futuristic Google architectural design, which was popular from 1940 to 1960.

The Gabriel South Beach

The Gabriel South Beach, on Ocean Drive, effortlessly blends Art Deco modernism with Miami’s tropical vibes. The four-building hotel offers an Art Deco design reminiscent of the 1930s Golden Age of Glamour. Guests will find two stunning pools, one on the roof with a glass-bottom overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The pool also features a beautiful mural designed by Mikeal B., a Danish graffiti artist and philanthropist. Guestrooms have a contemporary feel with an Art Deco pastel twist. Travelers can also find a 30-foot mural by French-born, L.A.-based street artist Mr. Brainnwash.

Balfour Hotel

This historic property, formally known as The Lord Balfour Hotel, has 82 guestrooms and suites across two Art Deco-style buildings. Balfour Hotel was designed in 1940 by Anton Skislewicz. Balfour Hotel has a unique style with timeless appeal. Each guestroom and suite mixes iconic Art Deco style with modern amenities and comforts. The lobby still sports the original terrazzo flooring while adding a new element with Art Deco elevator doors.
