Alma Nove

Founded by Executive Chef Paul Wahlberg and co-owner celebrity brothers Mark and Donnie Wahlberg, Alma Nove is an upscale restaurant serving a wide selection of Italian and Mediterranean fare just outside of downtown Boston. Along with a mouthwatering menu, the dining venue boasts beautiful views of Hewitt’s Cove in the city’s historic Launch at the Hingham Shipyard.

My family and I recently had the pleasure of visiting the establishment for a special occasion, and the restaurant most definitely met the lofty expectations my mother — a big Wahlberg family fan — had for its food. After sitting in heavy traffic due to a number of colleges in the area graduating that day, we were delighted to quickly find a parking spot in the expansive parking area outside the restaurant and begin feasting.

To start, we tried the Island Creek oysters, featuring roasted red pepper cocktail sauce and jicama relish, and the wood-grilled octopus with chorizo, fingerling potatoes, almonds and salsa verde. Both appetizers were incredibly fresh, but the wood-grilled flavor of the octopus coupled with the spiciness of the chorizo stole the show.

Before digging into our tasty shared entrees of pan-roasted duck breast and wood-grilled lamb chop, we savored homemade gnocchi with wild mushrooms, madeira and truffled pecorino. We all wished this dish was bottomless, as the gnocchi was deliciously buttery and the truffled pecorino was aged to perfection, tasting nutty, earthy and salty all at once.

To cap off an incredible meal, we ended with a fresh fruit trifle that satiated my sweet tooth with an almond brown butter cake featuring fresh mixed berries, sweet red wine reduction and candied lemon rind.

Though downtown Boston offers an incredible array of delicious fine-dining options, Alma Nove is most definitely worth the short trek outside the city for both its menu and the view.
