Modestly self-described by owners as a “working man’s oyster bar,” Row 34, a newcomer to Boston’s storied seafood scene, is far from a simple lunch-pailer oyster-shuck hangout.

There are, of course, ties to the area’s blue collar fishing industry. Located in the Fort Point neighborhood, near the Seaport, the restaurant carries a sort of industrial ambiance. The refurbished former steel factory features a high, exposed ceiling, brick walls, large factory windows and wooden beams. However, the aesthetic is also a work of modern design. The countertops and long hanging lights are all made from stainless steel, while the tabletops and furniture have a sleek black look. Moreover, the wall-covering pieces of artwork confirm this is no ordinary dive.

The dishes from the menu are precisely assembled creations, displayed in gourmet fashion. Highlights include the tuna crudo ($15) with avocado and black garlic and the scallop ceviche ($13). However, many regulars stop by simply to enjoy the exceptional littlenecks from the raw bar. The bar features dozens of handpicked beer and cider selections from both domestic and international vendors, like the local Jack’s Abby House Lager ($7).
