Weddings / How To's

Your wedding colors will be one of the first and most important decisions you make in the wedding planning process, and can determine the entire look, feel and theme of the event. Before ordering eight magenta bridesmaids dresses or 50 orange tablecloths, make 100 percent sure you’re just as in love with your wedding colors as you are your fiancé. Here are a few tools to help make the decision easier.

The Brides.com Color Studio allows you to generate random color pairings to inspire you. Who knows? You may just love one of the pairings enough to keep it! The colors are pretty specific, too. What may look like a yellow, purple and red palette to your untrained eyes is actually, upon further investigation, delicate shades of violet, claret and gold.

The Nearlyweds.com Wedding Color Chooser allows you to pick and choose a color range, color base and color tint to see what works and what doesn’t. Go through this range of choices three times to discover your three best colors. The process can get pretty deep — who knew there were so many shades of purple?

Preston Bailey takes more than just your favorite colors into consideration. Their color-picking process includes choosing a shade that sparks your imagination, a questionnaire about your event and then picking a “Preston Factor” to tie it all together. Preston Factors are a little like themes, with choices such as “theater,” “nightclub” and “garden.” The generator then spits out what is supposed to be your customized color palette, which includes a main color accompanied by three backup colors.
