Netflix and Spotify have made it so no one is ever bored, but what if you’re traveling through a remote area with no internet? An iPhone can only store so much music and video, and it’s also at risk of being lost due to hard drive failure.
That’s where The Egg comes in, a groundbreaking digital storage device developed by the startup Eggcyte. Initially, The Egg seems like nothing more than a round flash drive, but dig a little deeper and you’ll see what it’s capable of. Phones and cameras can now wirelessly transfer their information to the device, freeing up their storage capacity without fumbling around for USB cables.
Once on The Egg, photos, videos and music can be shared with friends, uploaded to a website or transferred to another device through your own personal web cloud. Even without an internet connection, users can access their information while off the grid, making The Egg a perfect companion for people who need entertainment in the back country.
All of this is housed in a small, flat egg-shaped device that includes a Linux-based Tizen OS and a color touchscreen for browsing through photos. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Eggcyte is now selling the device on their website starting at $199.
