Each year, the leafy London suburb of Wimbledon welcomes thousands of spectators who come to watch the best tennis players in the world slug it out on the grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

The 2016 edition will run Monday, June 27, to Sunday, July 10, with the cheapest tickets available earlier in the fortnight. Last year, Novak Djokovic won the men’s tournament and Serena Williams the women’s, and both will return to defend their crowns.

Wimbledon is one of the most important tennis tournaments in the world, and forms part of the Grand Slam. It is the only Grand Slam tournament which takes place on grass, offering spectators the chance to see the top players in the world play on a highly technical surface.

The cheapest way to see Wimbledon is to queue for ground passes, which start at around $40. This gives you access to the outer courts and the grounds, where you can watch the more expensive matches on big screens as you enjoy strawberries and cream.

You will be able to soak up the atmosphere of this most British occasion from the grounds while you sip on Pimm’s, a typical summer drink. Wimbledon is a 15-minute train ride from London Waterloo station, making it easy to reach.

While you are at the grounds, take the chance to visit the museum in order to get an idea of the history of the event.
