With the popular Finger Lakes wine region a few hundred miles north, Long Island might not be the first New York wine destination that comes to mind. However, the ever-evolving area boasts dozens of wineries for every taste. Plan your visit to Long Island Wine Country.

Long Island boasts three separate viticultural areas. The Hamptons, Long Island American Viticultural Area is located entirely within Suffolk County. This includes the beaches, shorelines, islands and mainland areas of the South Fork. Long Island American Viticultural Area covers Nassau and Suffolk Counties, plus the smaller offshore islands within those counties. North Fork American Viticultural Area rests entirely in Suffolk County and includes Shelter Island and Robins Island. The variety of grapes produced in the region offer whites, reds and rosés ranging from light to full-bodied. Each area is home to a variety of wineries. Search the website based on your preference: intimate, good for groups, pet friendly, upscale, educational and artisanal.

If you’re overwhelmed by the options, book a wine tour. Popular tour operators include Elegant Wine Tours of Long Island, North Fork Wine Tours and Long Island Wine Tours. Many of Long Island’s most popular restaurants feature local wines, so be sure to consult the menu before ordering.
