From the châteaux that caress the Loire River to the incomparable wines for which the region is known, the Loire Valley radiates esteem and glamour from its position on the west coast of France. Although most visitors come for the castles, they stay for the exquisite cuisine, gorgeous scenery and friendly folks. Only two hours from the capital city of Paris, the romantic region makes for an easy daytrip or a comfortable weekend trip from the City of Lights.
When it comes to castles, it is hard to match the prevalence of medieval châteaux in the region. From the shining white Chenonceau and Chambord castles to the more unique and captivating castles of Amboise and Blois, it is easy to imagine fairy tales taking place at any of the charming locales.
Wine lovers who prefer their vintages fruity and crisp must book a tour and tasting at a Loire Valley vineyard. The region is known for its Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir grapes as well as its sparkling wine.
City seekers can visit and the college town of Tours for a bit of culture, unique architecture and exemplary displays of art. Gourmands will delight in the region´s well-known produce including apples, pears, asparagus and lamb’s lettuce. Garnish local fish and beef with locally grown saffron or vinegar from Orléans.
No matter what lures you to the Loire Valley, the romantic atmosphere and ethereal landscapes will cement a special place in your heart.
