Keen divers will have a great time in the waters of the Yucatan Peninsula, thanks to a huge variety of dives.

From reef diving in the Caribbean to freshwater diving in the famous cenotes, the Yucatan is a diver’s paradise. If you time your visit properly, you could also swim alongside whale sharks and bull sharks.

You will be able to spot a huge variety of marine life on reef dives, including beautiful corals and giant sponges. At Puerto Aventuras, you can dive with sting rays, dolphins and manatees, while whale sharks are found off Isla Mujeres from mid-May to September.

Another popular attraction for advanced divers is the Devil’s Throat. This tunnel is lined with red sponges, and is found at the Punta Sur site in Cozumel.

If you’re looking for an underwater art fix, head to the Museo Subacuatico de Arte. Life-size sculptures stand on the seabed at this dive site-cum-gallery between Cancun and Isla Mujeres.

Cenotes dot the countryside in the Yucatan — their natural sinkholes formed when limestone bedrock collapses due to erosion from groundwater. Some of the most spectacular also feature cave systems, which can be dived and spelunked. One of the most spectacular is Rio Secreto, which you can explore on a guided tour.

With an amazing number of sites offering amazing diving, the Yucatan is a spectacular spot. From novices to advanced divers, you’ll find great diving for all.

Massive Resort Planned for Florida’s Forgotten Coast

Known as Florida’s Forgotten Coast, this stretch of the Florida Panhandle is often overlooked for more well-known destinations in the state, such as Panama City Beach, Miami and Tampa.
