Nelson’s, one of Terranea Resort’s on-site restaurants, is a popular eatery for guests of the resort and locals alike. Its oceanfront location provides stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and southern California coastline. The menu boasts regional favorites and local wines and beers.
We were quickly seated and opted to sit outside, even though it was a chillier day than anticipated. Our friendly server was at our table shortly after to take our drink order. I wanted to sample a local beverage. Instead of a California wine, I opted for a bottle of Eel River Brewing’s California Blonde organic ale. After browsing the menu, we opted for mussels with baguette to start. I had a harder time selecting my main course. While the various sandwiches and salads sounded flavorful, I kept going back to the fish and chips, which I eventually ordered.
The mussels arrived in a rich broth made with garlic and butter. We were still enjoying the appetizer as our main courses arrived. I was pleased with my selection. The tender, flaky cod wasn’t too heavy, despite being fried. French fries and tangy tarter sauce came on the side. The beer was the perfect accompaniment to my entrée. I was far too full to indulge in dessert, though the key lime pie tempted me.
Nelson’s is a great spot for a relaxed, southern California dining experience.
