Eurowings is expanding rapidly, some say to compete with Ryanair, and the growth comes with added benefits for American travelers.

Starting in April, the airline offers flights between New York (JFK) and Dusseldorf (DUS). Throughout the summer, travelers can fly three times weekly between North Rhine-Westphalia and Miami (MIA) and Fort Myers (RSW). The first flight to New York jets off April 28, with departures every day except Tuesday. Flights from Miami begin May 4, operating Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Flights from Fort Myers begin May 3 and operate Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Flights to and from Florida feature an Airbus A330-300 aircraft, previously operated by Brussels Airlines. The New York flights feature an Airbus A340-300 aircraft, also previously operated by Brussels Airlines.

The new flights to the States are part of a larger overall expansion, with other new destinations including Punta Cana.

“Our new destinations in New York and Florida are merely the start. In summer 2018, we’ll be increasing our fleet in Düsseldorf and thus expanding our leading position in Düsseldorf and North Rhine-Westphalia even further,” said Oliver Wagner, chief commercial officer, Eurowings.

“The courage we’ve shown by investing heavily in the new business model of low-cost long-haul routes has paid off for us. Eurowings is now the fastest growing airline in Europe and is also seriously upping the ante on the long-haul,” he added.

New routes aren’t the only thing the budget airline offers, though. Eurowings is the first low-cost airline to offer a business class, with its new BIZclass this summer. Available on select long-haul flights, the larger, updated seats offer more legroom on top of added service. Plus, the BIZclass seats are convertible into fully flat beds. The brand promises even more surprises regarding the class will come.
