Under $100 / North America

You may not think of Los Angeles as a walking town and you would be right — it really isn’t. If, however, you plan your day just right, you can make it so. Stay downtown for a change and focus your day within a five-mile radius of your hotel.

Grab brunch at Bar Ama. The Toad in a Hole is delicious and add a coffee and throw in a cocktail, this will last you all day for around $25. From there walk a few blocks to the Last Bookstore, browse the stacks for hours and read for free until you feel like wondering down Broadway. Window shop your way through the fashion district until you want a beautiful view of the city and a drink.

When this inspiration strikes, head up to the top floor of the Ace Hotel and take in the view for less than $12. Once you are sufficiently refreshed, pop back out onto the street for some more architectural sightseeing. Head up East 9th street and pass by LA Live on your way to the Westin Bonaventure Hotel. Once there, ride the funiculars and get lost in the architecture of anxiety.

You will be in the vicinity of any number of great museums like The Broad, free with a reservation. If you still have some energy left, grab dinner at the Grand Central Market and people watch. Dinner and dessert won’t run you more than $30.
