As the ecotourism trend flourishes so does the movement to clean up our oceans. Take a trip to a beach and it won’t be long before you notice trash and debris that wash ashore. Planet Love Life Bracelets recognizes the problem and is hard at work to do its part to save the lives of the precious marine animals endangered from the fishing nets and ropes lost or discarded by fishermen, also known as ghost nets.
The founders of Planet Love Life are avid conservationists and began making these bracelets after identifying ghost nets as one of the most detrimental problems for marine life. The company’s stylish bracelets are made from various types of nets and ropes salvaged around the world as part of beach and ocean clean-up projects. Most ropes and nets are salvaged from projects in Florida and the Bahamas.
Bracelets retail $16–25 and come in a variety of colors, depending on the type of net or rope salvaged. Each one is named in honor of a specific type of marine life Planet Love Life is aiming to protect, such as the whale shark bracelet, the sea turtle bracelet and the bottlenose dolphin bracelet.
Extra scraps of net that aren’t big enough to make bracelets are made into jellyfish earrings and rings so as little waste as possible is left behind. The company also makes silica glass straws as an alternative to the plastic straws which can wreak havoc on delicate marine life.
Bracelets, rings, earrings and straws are all available online here, as well as information regarding how to join a clean-up project or start one in your own local area.
