Depending on where you plan to travel this fall, the weather can be extremely unpredictable. Throw climate change into the mix, and the result can be a cornucopia of atmospheric conditions. Wherever you plan to go this fall, remember to pack the following items, just in case.
Extra layers. Even if you don’t think you’ll need it, it never hurts to toss an extra layer into your luggage. Anything from a lightweight jacket to a sweater or just a long-sleeved tee-shirt can go a long way in keeping you just a little bit warmer.
A trusty lightweight coat. While the aforementioned extra layer can be a “just-in-case” item, a trusty fall coat is a necessity. Opt for one that can easily fold into itself for easy packing, in case you happen upon nicer weather than expected and need a place to stow it.
Windproof umbrella. Yes, they actually exist! And they are worth investing in. A windproof umbrella is often coated with Teflon and can handle winds up to 60 mph. If you can’t find a decent umbrella, go with a poncho instead, which takes up little room in your luggage.
Waterproof shoes. In the event of the occasional autumn rainstorm, preparing yourself with waterproof shoes that are also comfortable to walk in will ensure you’re ready for any and all weather.

Known as Florida’s Forgotten Coast, this stretch of the Florida Panhandle is often overlooked for more well-known destinations in the state, such as Panama City Beach, Miami and Tampa.
