When is the last time you checked your travel budget in satisfaction, then realized you were going to blow through $20 or more of it on travel supplies and products? Instead of trudging off to a late-night drug store, hit the Dollar Store instead. Here’s what to look for.
Travel-Sized Bottles
Instead of shelling out $5 or $10 at a premium retailer, the Dollar Store will sell three or more travel-sized bottles in a single pack. For just $1, you’re ready to fill up your empty bottles with shampoo, conditioner and other products that otherwise won’t pass the TSA 3.4-ounce rule.
In-Flight Snacks
It’s easy to start blowing through your travel budget the moment you get to the airport on a few snacks. Load up at the Dollar Store on items like candy, chips, crackers and dried fruit and put together a baggie of your favorites. And, by the way, you can also find all the travel baggies you need at the Dollar Store, too.
Travel Coffee Mugs
The selection of travel coffee mugs at the Dollar Store is surprisingly cute and varied, from classic to seasonal motif. Pick your favorite and bring along for your next trip. Fill it with water after you pass through your security checkpoint to stay hydrated, and make your own coffee from your vacation destination’s Airbnb.
Earbuds
Although earbuds may retail for $10 or more at the airport gift shop, you can pick up a surprisingly reliable set for just $1 at the Dollar Store. They may not last as long as premium counterparts, but should survive through your trip at a price you can’t beat.
Soft Socks
For long-haul flights, it is necessary to have all the creature comforts you can get. Pick up a pack of impossibly fuzzy soft socks from the Dollar Store and wear on the airplane, your accommodations and anywhere else you’re going. At just a dollar, you can always leave them behind if your suitcase is feeling overstuffed.
At just $1, there’s plenty to pick up at the Dollar Store. Just remember not to overspend on non-essentials like all the off-brand office supplies and birthday party supplies you won’t need until next year.
