Baguio City is an urban city on the island of Luzon. Its stunning natural landscape has given it the nickname the City of Pines. The mix of nature and highly urbanized city makes it the perfect place to spend one day for less than $100.
Begin with breakfast at Balbacua at Urban Kamote. This Filipino café serves up authentic breakfast foods for less than $10.
Once full, make your way along Kennon Road to Bridal Veil Falls to view one of the most spectacular waterfalls on the island. Nearby you’ll also find Lion’s Head, an enormous, 40-foot-tall wood carving of a lion that’s free to see.
Head back toward the center of town for a stroll through Baguio City Market. The market offers a wide array of freshly picked fruits and local cuisine. It’s also a great place to sample some purple yam jam. Expect to drop $20 on souvenirs and treats.
For lunch, head over to Baguio Craft Brewery for a delicious burger and craft beer for just $15.
Baguio was once the Catholic epicenter of the Philippines, which is why Our Lady of Atonement remains one of its most popular attractions. The pink rose towers are unique to the area, and touring the church is free.
Next, you’ll want to head a bit outside city limits. Catch a bus to Tam-Awan Village for just $10. The village is home of the Cordilleran people. Each traditional hut houses beautiful art pieces showcasing the brilliance of Igorot artwork.
Finally, make your way back to town and check out Burnham Park. The recreation area is famous for its giant swan boats and shady pine forests. Spend a couple of hours soaking in Baguio’s beautiful nature before heading back for dinner at Good Taste Cafe & Restaurant for its famed fried rice. A meal will cost just $10.
