More and more books continue to be made available digitally or as e-books. Many local libraries in the United States offer e-books for patrons to check-out and enjoy. For bibliophiles getting ready to embark on a long trip, borrowing e-books could be a lifesaver.
Amazon Kindle
Anyone with a smartphone likely has the Amazon Kindle app pre-installed, making it easy to access your library of e-books purchased from Amazon. If you do not have any e-books, though, you still have a lot of options.
Many classic novels and books are available for free from Amazon’s Kindle store. Moreover, the Kindle app allows users to read books borrowed from the library on the device of choice.
For many local libraries, the system requires users to sign in to their Amazon account and simply choose the correct device or app to send the book. Returning the book to the library is just as simple.
Overdrive.com
Overdrive opens up a lot of options for the library borrower by allowing the borrower to select books to read on a number of different devices. Users can borrow books to read on Chromebooks, Android devices, Windows 8 and 10 devices and more.
In addition to the website, Overdrive has an app that allows users to borrow books through and enjoy on the go. You can find more about the Overdrive process here.
Libby
Libby is an app created by the team behind Overdrive. The app does a number of things to make borrowing from libraries easier than ever. Users can sign in to different libraries with different cards, download or stream books and even keep track of your reading history with a helpful history section in the app.
To make matters simpler, the interface of the app ensures every loan, from e-books to audio books, from one or more libraries are always on the same shelf.
By making use of these apps, it is possible to keep up with your reading on your next trip.
