While smartphone cameras have come a long way over the last couple of years most people can probably agree the zooming features still leave something to be desired. That is, until now. The ASUS ZenFone Zoom is a new camera phone with a real zooming lens.

The phone contains a 10-element internal lens that uses a combination of synthetic, glass and prismatic lenses in a dual-prism periscope arrangement. That might sound a little confusing, but what it basically means is the lens zooms inside the camera instead of out.

The 3x optical zoom with 28-84mm focal length capabilities are powered by a Japanese- manufactured 10p Hoya lens and includes optical image stabilization with four stops. That adds up to 12x total zoom length abilities than what you’d expect on a normal camera phone.

From now on you don’t have to get up close and personal to your subjects to just snap a great photo to send to your friends in an instant. Of course, the smartphone comes with many of the same capabilities you expect from a modern-day cellphone, but you might have to check your provider to see it’s available with your plan
