Exciting news for NFL fans! Melbourne, Australia, makes sporting history as the first city in Australia to host an official NFL regular season game. The match will take place in the 2026 season at Melbourne Cricket Ground, seeing the Los Angeles Rams as the designated home team. In fact, the match has the potential to set a record for the highest-ever attendance at an NFL International Series match.

“Together with the Victorian State Government, Visit Victoria and the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and with the Los Angeles Rams in 2026, we look forward to making history in what is an important market for the NFL and a significant next step in expanding our international footprint,” said Roger Goodell, commissioner, NFL.
Melbourne is already a sports-centric city. The city recently celebrated a record 1.2 million people attending the Australian Open, and this March sees the city kick off the 2025 Formula 1 Grand Prix with an expected 450,000 fans. Melbourne is also home to more than 20 professional teams and is the heart of Aussie Rules Football.

As NFL continues to expand its global fanbase, particularly in Australia, it’s even easier for Americans to reach Melbourne thanks to Delta Air Line’s new direct service from Los Angeles (LAX) to Melbourne (MEL), which starts this December.
Later this year, Melbourne hosts the Rip Curl Pro, Melbourne Cup and more.
