Biting on utensils is no longer an etiquette faux paux — it is now a way to cut down on waste with Bakeys edible cutlery. With three flavors, plain, sweet and savory, anyone can pair their silverware according to their meal with little to no waste; just eat the spoon!

Invented in India, one of the highest offenders of disposable cutlery, the country now leads the way in innovative design with edible spoons. The original concept was created in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India in 2010. This ingenious invention takes disposable silverware to another level.

The spoons are made of flour and various seasonings, some of which customers can choose to have made in custom flavors.. Local, Indian customers can buy 100 spoons for 325 Indian Rupee, about $4.91, or they can special order in bulk.

Until now the website operated only within India, but now thanks to an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign, Bakeys can now move forward with a worldwide marketing system complete with new flavors.

New flavor suggestions will be taken from supporter surveys and Bakeys will, hopefully, be up and running soon. This edible cutlery will make a huge difference in the disposable waste industry and hopefully inspire change in other brands, so keep an eye out for Bakeys edible cutlery.
