With more than 500 miles of coastline, it should come as no surprise Senegal is home to some great beaches.
The capital city, Dakar, sits on a peninsula with great access to beaches, including Plage des Mamelles. It’s right in the middle of the city, but it’s a great place to relax.
Yoffi is a more peaceful area near Dakar, with long stretches of sand. Try BCEAO beach, home to surf schools, thatched beach huts and barbecue stalls.
Another top spot is Ngor Island, home to four small coves visitors can easily walk between. You will also find one of Senegal’s most famous surf waves here: the Ngor Right.
Outside the city, to the south, lies the Petite-Côte, a long stretch of beaches with fishing villages and towns dotted along it. Check out Popenguine, where you will find a great seafood restaurant called L’Echo Côtier.
Those looking for a sophisticated beach experience should head to Saly-Portudal, a beach town that boasts high-end hotels, casinos and a golf course. It’s right near Blaise Diagne Airport, convenient for travelers, and the long stretch of sand means there is room for everyone.
Another top choice is Cap Skirring, near the border with Guinea-Bissau, famous for soft white sands and a beautiful palm tree backdrop.
