Champagne is the libation of celebration but a bottle of bubbly doesn’t have to break the bank. Champagne is a type of sparkling wine only produced in theChampagne region of France; this label is exclusive and tends to come with a hefty price tag. Still, there are plenty of champagne-like sparkling wines that are nearly identical.
Try a bottle of Prosecco, a light-colored dry or extra-dry sparkling wine from Italy. For only $12, you can purchase a bottle of Zardetto Prosecco, which is made in the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene region of Italy.
Another option is Crémant, a sparkling wine produced using the same method as Champagne, but made in California. The Roederer Estate Brut, is a luxurious budget option.
For a real bargain, explore Cook’s Grand Reserve and score a bottle of bubbly for less than $10. The beverage has notes of vanilla and is as easy on the palate as it is on the wallet.
Also, keep an eye out for liquor store sales — try after New Year’s or Valentine’s Day — and also visit unexpected alcohol vendors. In some states, drugstores and grocery chains offer deep discounts on sparkling wines and other spirits. Whether toasting a New Year or a birthday, add a glass of bubbly to your celebration.
