Champagne or Prosecco? They are not created equal. Each is distinctly different and yet they are often lumped together when you find yourself looking for something sparkling, but affordable. Champagne originates in France and Prosecco in Italy, but the process of creating these perfect sparklers is also individual.
There is no need to delve into that here, but, keeping this in mind, if you want a dry Prosecco that will not break the bank, try Mionetto Brut DOC. For less than $15 at almost any outlet serving wine, you can pick up a bottle of this dry Prosecco, which will surely please a wide variety of wine drinkers.
If you are looking for a Champagne, however, your idea of budget will have to shift ever so slightly. It is generally agreed you will not find decent champagne for less than $35 a bottle. This is an investment, but if it is a special occasion or just a hard-won Friday, it may be worth it. A couple of tips to keep in mind when choosing a budget Champagne is it should be aged at least 36 months and Italian competitors will fight for your dollar once you hit the $30 range.
If you want to stick to a French Champagne, you may want to look to the lower end of Veuve Clicquot for around $35, or a bottle or Moët & Chandon for $45.
