Best Camp Shoe Options

Backpacking can be hard on your feet, so when you get to camp it’s always a great idea to take off those heavy boots and let your feet dry out from sweating. Doing so will help prevent blisters and will generally help you feel more comfortable and happy as you set up your tent, make dinner and gear up the campfire stories.

There are a few things to consider when buying camp shoes. Weight is important, especially if you are hiking a long distance. Make sure you don’t invest in a shoe more than a few ounces in order to minimize your overall pack weight.

The other important consideration is the environment you’re hiking in. You’ll want something more sturdy and potentially insulated if you’re planning on hiking through a wet and/or cold environment. If you’re thinking you’re likely to stay dry, a simple pair of flip-flops might do the trick.

Some good options include Crocs, which are lightweight and dry quickly. Opt for a pair without holes if you’re worried about keeping your feet dry.

Another good option is a pair of ankle rain boots or rubber boots you’ve simply trimmed the top off of, if you’re going to be in a wet climate. Otherwise, lightweight running shoes work well.
