Traveling is one of the best ways to experience the famed cuisine from a country in the most authentic environment possible. To get an even purer taste of a culture´s cuisine, hit the streets and sample the food sold in stalls and huts. See below for some of the world´s best street food where culinary credibility is king.
Munich, Germany
Beer and bratwurst are Bavaria´s highlights, but with one sweep through the city´s central market, Viktualienmarkt, it will become clear Munich prides itself on much more including cheeses, soft pretzels and a rainbow of fruits and vegetables.
Istanbul, Turkey
It is quite difficult to roam the streets of Istanbul and avoid the lure of the aromas seeping out of local markets and eateries. Follow your nose to Turkish favorites like simit (sesame-coated molasses bread), durum and innumerable spices and teas.
Bangkok, Thailand
Watch locals prepare pad Thai from a small metal cart on the street and expect to fork over just a few dollars for the fresh dish. Breathe in the scents of curries and seafood at Or Tor Kor Market, and sample some noodles to go.
Hong Kong
This mega-metropolis on the South China Sea serves street-side dim sum and dumplings for a fraction of the price of restaurants. Peruse the markets and pull up a stool for a fresh bowl of dumpling soup.
