While many people visit Brighton to get a taste of the British seaside, the less well-known town of Hastings is the new place to be. If you want to get out into the countryside, take a trip to Box Hill for the day. The 600-meter peak is the highest in the Surrey hills, and affords great views of the rolling green land surrounding it. On the east coast of England lies the town of Margate, once famous for its fairground. After decades of neglect the local council spruced up the area, and a trendy young crowd is moving back in. It’s only an 1.5 hours from London by train.

More countryside is on offer to the north of London, more specifically near the town of Hitchin in Hertfordshire. Check out the stunning lavender fields which attract a steady stream of visitors.

Cambridge is only 47 minutes from London, but it feels like another world entirely. This picturesque town is home to one of the most famous universities in the world, and is bisected by a pretty river on which you can take a boat to get a different perspective.
