The seaside town of Whitstable is a popular daytrip destination for Londoners, and there is plenty to do.
Start your day with breakfast at Samphire, a classy restaurant which serves up hearty breakfasts. The eggs Benedict comes highly recommended at $12. From here pop into the Whitstable Museum ($4) to get a flavor of the history of the town, before hiring some bikes from Whitstable Cycle Hire and cruising down the coast ($26). The terrain is good for cyclists, and the more adventurous among you might want to explore down to nearby Herne Bay before cycling back into Whitstable. It’s a 10-mile roundtrip.
Once you’ve worked up an appetite head to JoJo’s Restaurant for a bite to eat and some coffee looking over the sea ($16). Enjoy an afternoon on the beach and take a stroll around the harbor, drinking in the fresh sea air. If the tide is out you can go crabbing, and keep an eye out for the oyster beds which slowly appear as low tide approaches.
For dinner, it’s time to sample some of the delicious local seafood at the Whitstable Oyster Company ($30). This famous spot is right on the seafront and serves up local favorites in impressive surroundings.
Watch the sunset on the beach, and head to the Old Neptune pub for a nightcap ($7). The bar serves a number of international beers as well as locally brewed favorites, all of which provide the perfect ending to a day at the British seaside.
