Travel restrictions to Cuba have been relaxed in recent years for U.S. citizens, and there are plenty of ways to get there. Please be advised, however, there are current travel warnings urging Americans to reconsider travel to Cuba.

If you can get the right visa inside the United States, by signing up to one of 11 valid visa categories such as education, humanitarian work or journalism, you can fly from major U.S. cities to Cuba. The best deals are to be had from the East Coast, with Miami (MIA) an obvious choice for proximity and a large Cuban population. Tampa (TPA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) are other good options.

Other top choices are New York (JFK) and Los Angeles (LAX), massive transport hubs. You can also fly directly from Atlanta (ATL), Charlotte (CLT) and Houston (IAH).

Mexican airline Interjet has a great service to Havana from various Mexican cities, including Mexico City (MEX), Cancun (CUN) and Merida (MID). These flights tend to be affordable and you can also tack on a few days’ holiday in Mexico to boot!
