Situated along the Pacific coast in California, San Diego is an ideal destination for a summer vacation. The city is home to a world-famous zoo, beaches, parks and a bustling cultural scene. Take advantage of the best free summer activities San Diego has to offer:

 

  • The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego offers complimentary admission to visitors 25 years of age and younger, with valid IDs.
  • Take a stroll through Old Town State Historic Park. The six-block park features historic sites, museums and shops. Free, living history tours take place at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily.
  • Go on a free tour at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The outdoor walking tour explores the active Scripps Pier, closed to the public. Monthly tours are free, though registration is required.
  • Take a dip in the ocean at one of San Diego’s more than 30 free beaches.
  • The San Diego Fly Fishers club offers free fly-casting lessons from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. on Sunday mornings.
  • Stroll through Balboa Park. Park rangers at the urban cultural park lead free walking tours at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Sundays.
  • Enjoy free music at the Coronado Summer Concert Series.
