Whether you’re on a run, hiking in the mountains or just working out, you need a pair of headphones that can take the rigors of life. With an emphasis on earbuds, here are four pairs to consider for your purchase.
Plantronics BackBeat Fit ($75)
Some people like in-ear headbands, making the BackBeat Fit a good option for those who want a lot of value for a minimal price. The band makes sure the headphones are stable during the most intense workouts, and a wireless connection means there won’t be any cables getting in your way. While it’s not hi-fi sound, the BackBeat Fit has a long battery life and wide Bluetooth range.
Koss FitClips ($15)
If you want the most bang for your buck, the Koss FitClips are durable, sweat-resistant and covered by a limited lifetime warranty, all for just $15. You don’t get a remote control, but they’re available in five colors and designed to be as comfortable as possible with a unique, flexible clip design. Best of all, they’re the first headphones designed for women by women, though men seem to like them too.
Sennheiser CX 686G ($70)
These are the best all-around pair of in-ear, sweat-resistant earbuds. Sennheiser is a respected name among audiophiles, and the CX 686G does a good job balancing sound quality with stability, durability and features. The earbuds come in multiple sizes, have an antibacterial coating, feature a non-tangling oval wire and come with a two-year warranty.
Jaybird X3 ($130)
Many consider these the crème de la crème of workout headphones, improving on previous models with a more compact design and an upgraded battery. The nickel-metal hydride battery lasts the same eight hours as before, but this version is more reliable, and can be charged much faster. They have a great sound, but keep in mind the X3 is a noise-canceling headphone, so its going to seal out a lot of ambient noise (which may not be preferable on a run).
