As with any large city, there are hundreds of different accommodation options in Amsterdam.
The first decision you will need to make is which neighborhood to stay in. Many tourists choose to stay right in the middle of town, great if you want to get to the main sites quickly and easily.
However, to experience life like a local you should consider staying in De Pijp, Jordaan or Negen Straatjes. These areas are only slightly away from the center, and each has its own particular charm.
De Pijp has plenty of bars and cafes to explore, as well as independent shops and galleries. It’s a good mixture of locals and tourists. The Bicycle Hotel is one of the top accommodation options in De Pijp, with double rooms starting from €30. The hotel also rents bikes!
Jordaan is most famous as the home of the Anne Frank House, but there is plenty to keep you here. The neighborhood used to be firmly working class, but house prices have soared as galleries, restaurants and bars continue to open. The Backstage Hotel is a quirky little place with a musical theme, offering double rooms for around €100 per night. Live music is on every night at the lively bar, so it’s one for people who like to party.
Negen Straatjes is another neighborhood fairly central while retaining some local charm. There are a number of famous coffee shops here. There aren’t many places to stay in the area, but Hotel IX offers a range of different suites. It’s a bit more expensive than other options, at around €200 per night, but the suites are great for a romantic getaway.
