Tips / Destination

Glacier National Park in Montana is gorgeous park that encompasses more than 1 million acres and includes parts of two mountain ranges. Amazingly, the park has almost all its original native plant and animal species. This includes grizzly bears, moose and wolverines. With so much area to cover, there are numerous trails to choose from.

A trail that covers many of the best views of the park is Highline Trail. This almost 12-mile trail is not for the lighthearted. However, if you truly want to experience the beauty of the park, this is the best trail for it. You will go past streams, creeks, animals and meadows of wildflowers.

Grinnell Glacier trail is named after the glacier you will see along the way. It’s the most-visited glacier in the park. You have a good chance of seeing the larger animals of the park on this route. As you continue the path, you’ll experience an amazing view of Grinnell Lake and its emerald color. This is great place to take a few pictures.

Looking for a long hike? Try the Pitamakan/Dawson trail, 17.9 miles long. There are beautiful waterfalls and avalanche chutes. The views only get better as you continue the hike. Plan to spend a couple days completing this hike so you don’t miss any of the views. There are many lakes along the trail, including Sky Lake, Oldman Lake and Two Medicine Lake. This hike is perfect for those that want the full experience of Glacier National Park.
