As much as yoga is about non-attachment, yogis do love their mats. Finding the perfect one to travel with is different for everyone, but we’ve taken a look at three options to keep you saying “Om” on the road.
Lululemon The Un Mat
With an extra grippy option, this double-sided mat is made for various conditions. It can be rolled or folded and has an antimicrobial layer for those hot and humid climates. Coming in at just under two pounds, it sacrifices thickness to reduce bulk, so, although it’s perfect to throw in your pack, you may want to borrow a studio mat for more cushion. ($65)
Yogitoes Mat Towel
Another option, foregoing a mat altogether, is using a Yogitoes Mat Towel. These can be rolled and packed far better than a full mat. They only weigh 1.5 pounds and can easily be used over a borrowed mat or by themselves. They are a convenient substitution for short trips or for limited space while backpacking, but might not be suitable for more long-term travels. ($64)
Jade Travel Mat
For a more serious yogi, the Jade Travel Mat provides most of the traditional mat features. It has more cushion than other travel mats and excellent anti-slip protection. However, it can only be rolled for packing and weighs a whopping 3.5 pounds. It’s best for die-hard Jade lovers and those needing consistent support. ($50)
