For film lovers, there is no end of events designed to keep you in touch with the freshest developments in the medium. Across the United States, there is a stream of film festivals that screen the latest projects from directors both recognized and emerging. Among the most famous festivals is Sundance, which took place January 19–29. Keep your eyes out for the winners of these prestigious prizes.

Among the other top names are the Telluride Film Festival, in Colorado, and the Palm Springs Film Festival, California. These two are known as industry favorites, with prices to match.

For a more affordable festival experience, check out the SXSW Film Festival. SXSW shot to prominence as a music festival, but now includes films as well. Another independent favorite is Dances With Films, which prides itself on providing a platform for indie filmmakers and those just breaking into the industry.

Fans of international cinema will enjoy the New York Film Festival, which screens a good selection of foreign titles. Further down the east coast, the Florida Film Festival combines films with cocktails over 10 days in April.

With the biggest entertainment industry on the planet, it is no surprise the United States is home to a multitude of film festivals. The only challenge is finding which one appeals to your taste, as there is no shortage of options.
